After a long journey as doctoral fellow, IV Sophea successfully defended her PhD thesis on 18 November 2024. She works at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge’s Epidemiology and Public Health Unit. She joined her doctoral school of Universitรฉ Toulouse III Paul Sabatier, France.
โ€œBlocking Malaria Transmission in Forest Vulnerable Populations through Forest Malaria Workers: a Key to Malaria Elimination in Cambodiaโ€ is her topic of research involving different studies to identify the main determinates of malaria transmission in forest areas and set up an adapted intervention to accelerate malaria elimination. This ambition required developing a network of Forest Malaria Workers, understanding malaria transmission among people inside the forest areas, and identifying and assessing an intervention’s effectiveness.
Her research findings provide a solid foundation for future research and interventions aimed at eliminating malaria in similar environments, both in Cambodia and in other parts of the world facing comparable challenges. She expressed her gratitude for all supports during her cursus, especially to her thesis directors, Antoine BERRY, Patrice Piola, Claude Flamand and to the fellowship supports.
