The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together 33 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has more than 250 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 5 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.
The lnstitut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is recruiting for One Bioinformatics System Engineer for 1 year, start from 1st December 2024 until 30th November 2025. There will be a possibility to extend the contract duration based on staff performance and further financing availability.
Position Overview: |
The successful applicant will join the newly established Unit for Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence Applications at IPC. This role will focus on maintaining and further developing the bioinformatics software systems that support scientific research at the institute. This includes managing the computational infrastructure and high-performance computing resources.

Main responsibilities: |
- Maintenance of bioinformatics software environments on multi-user Linux systems.
- Creation of new bioinformatics scripts and pipelines (eg. with applications in virology and immunology).
- Monitoring and managing data storage and installed programs on our High-Performance Computing (HPC) server.
- Ensuring the stability and efficiency of computational resources to support research activities.
- Gather valuable insights and experiences from every project at IPC to share with the team
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and security to enable smooth research workflows.
- Collaborate with IT departments to manage network infrastructure, security, and backups for research projects.
- Provide technical support for system users and assist with troubleshooting computational problems that arise during bioinformatics analyses.
- Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements for data handling, including privacy laws and bioethics regulations.
- Support scientific research by ensuring that systems are in place to handle and process data efficiently.
Candidate Profile: |
- Education: M.Sc. in Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (recent graduates are welcome to apply).
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Linux command line operations.
- Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
- Additional Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and expand knowledge in biology and bioinformatics.
- Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willing to extensively fill their knowledge gaps in biology and bioinformatics.
