The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institut Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together 33 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has more than 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 5 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.

For over 25 years, the Virology Unit (the Unit) at the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is committed to conduct research on, and contribute to the prevention and control of infectious diseases in Cambodia, in Southeast Asia, and around the globe. Emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases pose a significant threat to public health and economic stability in the region and worldwide, and the Unit is uniquely poised to be a global player in endemic and emerging virus (EEV) research and response. The Unit seeks to improve Early Warning (EW) systems using a One Health framework at the human-livestock-wildlife interface.

The Virology Unit aims to become a leading center for research on endemic, emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases in Southeast Asia, contributing to national and global efforts to control and prevent these diseases. Our vision is to improve Early Warning for emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases in Cambodia through One Health surveillance, mechanistic research, response/intervention, contribute to developing new prophylactics and therapeutics, and provision of expertise and evidence-based knowledge.

 

Position Overview:

IPC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Manager. The successful candidate will manage all stages of the project, ensuring that scientific protocols and safety guidelines are followed, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders. This role requires a strong background in clinical management, infectious disease research, and team leadership.

The Clinical Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a study focused on SARI in children and adults at two major hospitals in Phnom Penh. This role will be critical in liaising with hospital teams, ensuring smooth collaboration between the study and clinical partners. Key responsibilities include performing informed consent procedures, coordinating sample collection from hospitals, and ensuring that data is accurately gathered and reported back to both the hospitals and study funders. The Clinical Manager will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with study protocols, overseeing logistics, and ensuring that research activities align with ethical and regulatory standards.

This role is designed for a very motivated clinical manager who can steer high-impact research projects, innovate in virology, and significantly contribute to the global scientific community. The candidate must demonstrate expertise in virology, and a commitment to scientific leadership.

Main responsibilities:

  • Clinical Study Management: Develop and manage clinical trial protocols, ensuring that all trials meet regulatory and ethical standards. Manage patient recruitment, data collection, and ensure strict adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Data and Outcomes Management: Oversee the analysis and interpretation of complex data sets, utilizing advanced statistical and computational tools. Ensure that data management practices are robust and that findings are accurately interpreted to guide decision-making processes within research projects. Promote the use of cutting-edge data analysis techniques to derive significant insights from experimental results. Oversee the analysis and interpretation of clinical data, collaborating with statisticians and researchers to ensure that outcomes are accurately measured and reported. Ensure that data collection is comprehensive and meets the highest standards of scientific integrity.
  • Collaboration & Networking: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with national and international partners, including hospitals, One Health authorities, and other stakeholders. Represent IPC in external forums and workshops to promote the project and foster collaboration.
  • Dissemination of Research: Ensure that research findings are effectively communicated through scientific publications, reports, and presentations. Advocate for research priorities that align with global and regional One Health needs, and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge that can inform policy and practice.
  • Resource Management: Manage project budgets to secure the resources necessary for sustaining and expanding the Virology Unit’s research activities. Actively seek new funding streams to support ongoing projects and the development of new research initiatives.

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualifications: A Masters Degree with specialization in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Public Health, or Clinical Medicine. A Doctoral degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) in Public Health, Infectious Diseases or a related field is desirable.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a management or leadership role within a clinical research setting. Prior experience managing research projects focusing on infectious diseases, particularly respiratory infections or pneumonia, is highly desirable.

  • Clinical Expertise: Proven experience in clinical study design, project management, and data interpretation in infectious diseases or related fields.

  • Project Management Skills: Strong experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams, including researchers, clinicians, and administrative staff. Excellent skills in resource management, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Funding & Project Management: Demonstrated ability to attract and execute funded research projects, with proven experience in managing research budgets, including financial planning, resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

  • Language: Very good English language skills required, Khmer or French language skills desirable.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively disseminate complex scientific information to diverse audiences.

  • Collaborative Approach: A team player with the ability to foster collaboration and build strong partnerships both internally and externally.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing research landscapes and to lead teams through challenges in dynamic environments. Successful professional experience in a resource limited setting is a plus.
