Institut Pasteur du Cambodge scientist received Discovery award from Wellcome trust.

What do we know about chikungunya? It is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes that can cause joint pains. We don’t t know why symptoms persist in some patients who develop chronic arthritis. The immunology Unit from IPC received a Discovery Award funding from the Wellcome Trust to understand the immunological determinants of susceptibility to chronic chikungunya disease. Researchers from IPC will work together with researchers from Rockefeller University in this new 6-year project. The research is expected to lead to new treatments and predictive markers for chronic chikungunya.
