Visit of Professor Françoise Barre-Sinoussi (Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 2008) at IPC – 7and 8th th October 2024
On the 7th and 8th of October 2024, we were honored to welcome Professor Françoise Barre-Sinoussi to the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC). A renowned French immunologist and virologist, Professor Barre-Sinoussi spent her distinguished career at the Institut Pasteur, where she is now an honorary research director. She played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the virus responsible for AIDS, a discovery that earned her the Nobel Prize in Medicine on October 2008.
During his visit, he was given an insight into the activities of the virology and immunology units and the clinical research group.
In a symbolic moment, during this visit, Professor Barre-Sinoussi stood in the same room where she received the call announcing her Nobel Prize 16 years ago, on October 7, 2008. Reflecting on this milestone, she delivered an inspiring speech to the IPC team, highlighting the importance of scientific collaboration and perseverance.
