The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together 33 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has more than 250 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 5 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.  

 

The lnstitut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is recruiting for One Bioinformatic Research Engineer for 1 year, start from 1st December 2024 until 30th November 2025. There will be a possibility to extend the contract duration based on staff performance and further financing availability.

 

Position Overview:

The successful applicant will join the newly established Unit for Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence Applications at IPC. This position will be focused on the support of the scientific research at the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge with bioinformatics and computational biology methods.

 

Recruitment conditions:

  • Language: Bilingual English (very good skills) – Khmer
  • Position: Full-time.
  • Contract: The initial contract is offered for 1 year (renewable).

Main responsibilities:

  • Creation of Bioinformatics scripts and pipelines
  • Aid in projects for the analysis of sequencing data
  • Aid in the analysis of data from Single cell RNA sequencing experiments
  • Design and develop bioinformatics software tools, platforms, and pipelines for processing biological data (e.g., next-generation sequencing data).
  • Automate data analysis processes to improve the efficiency and reproducibility of research.
  • Implement and optimize algorithms for data analysis, such as sequence alignment, structural biology simulations, or evolutionary modeling.
  • Adapt existing tools to better suit specific research needs, improving accuracy and performance.
  • Develop systems to handle large-scale biological datasets, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Integrate diverse data types (genomics, proteomics, etc.) for cross-disciplinary research applications.
  • Work closely with IPC collaborators and other researchers to understand their data needs and provide computational solutions.
  • Optimize computational workflows to run efficiently on high-performance computing systems or cloud environments.
  • Provide technical support for bioinformatics tools and ensure the proper functioning of bioinformatics platforms.
  • Troubleshoot computational issues that arise in research projects and implement solutions.
  • Contribute to the scientific research by performing computational analysis, interpreting results, and co-authoring scientific papers.
  • Stay updated on the latest technologies and methodologies in bioinformatics and apply them to ongoing research

Candidate Profile:

  • Education: M.sc. In Biology, Chemistry, Physics or another natural science field (recent graduates are welcome to apply).
  • Technical Skills: Experience with or a strong aptitude for learning Linux command line operations and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Willingness to learn and expand knowledge in biology and bioinformatics.
    • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
    • Motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Willing to extensively fill their knowledge gaps in biology and bioinformatics.
    • Rigorous, meticulous, organized and motivated
