Professor Patrice Debré, member of the Académie Nationale de Médecine, gave a conference entitled “The three lives of Louis Pasteur” on Thursday June 8, 2023 at the Institut français du Cambodge in Phnom Penh. Around a hundred people attended, including the French Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr Jacques Pellet, and Professor Yves Buisson member of the Académie Nationale de Médecine and former Director of the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (1999-2001).

From chemistry to the medicine via microbiology, Louis Pasteur created a veritable revolution in the life sciences.  He introduced a new science, microbiology, to the agri-food and medical industries, and showed that fundamental research can lead to multiple applications. 

This conference was organized on the occasion of the Académie Nationale de Médecine’s mission to Phnom Penh, as part of its long-standing collaboration with the University of Science and Health. It was also organized to mark the 70th anniversary of the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge.
